Thanks, that makes sense!
As a dark lady, I thank you. But what about NINA SIMONE? You may not find her attractive, but she is legendary to say the least.
I love you both for this podcast…I especially loved the Lloyd Chalmers joint and the Georgia Anne Muldrow joint…where can I find them????
Come on ‘Te! I come to this website every day, awaiting an update. Give me my fix! Also, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the tragic and premature retirement of Olivia O’Lovely.

2009 is goooooooooooooooood!!! The site aint blocked at work no mo!! Now I can laugh out loud randomly and have people peeking in my office and I give them the “whats the problem look”. The illest podcast period!!!
Tigallo, Brainchild, where you boys at, we understand you busy and don’t want to ask too much of you, but you have a fanbase, that is in need for some good entertainment. I can’t deal with this radio much longer, I’m sure you understand…

The list of Cark skinned sisters was funny and edutainment to say the least. The music is always fresh like produce and shows like this is needed.
Nothing Will Work Unless You Do
PEACE
PHON-TIG, my nig! It’s the Homey here, the 1 and Only. Gotta say, I had a strange you had the newest GGR eppy posted when I checked this morning! Between the GG show, Foreign Exchange, JL, and anything w/ Nicolay and you on my Ipod, that’s all that really helps a Homey not only to my long commute to work, but helps me concentrate through this f-ed up economy and life’s daily struggles!
BTW, congrats on LIAB! Once again, FE has added another classic album to your resume, continuing to transform music into awe-inspiring, inspirational, well-orchestrated harmonies to cure the common soul. Propz onto you!
BTW, I’d love to work w/ ya on some graphic work. I’m the whiz of Photoshop, no doubt! Keep in touch and hit a Homey up when ya can! Peace, Tig!
Tig, you never fail to entertain!
The “Black Coffee” countdown finally arrived! Last but not least. Taral Hicks …man, that’s one underrated woman right there. I’m always disappointed that her career never took off.
Some glaring omissions: Jessica White, Bria Myles, Kelly Rowland, Nicole Wray, Maia Campbell.
Naomi Simms and Iman, for the legends category? Naomi defintely paved the way for black women in the fashion industry. Big time.
Shanice Wilson, Jill Marie Jones and Victoria Dillard are more medium-brown to me than dark-brown but gauging any aspect of one’s physical appearance is highly subjective.
Excellent show, man and that Ralph T. joint defintely sent me back. You had downloading it on Frostwire while listening to the broadcast!

Yo Tiggalo, how you gone forget Chilli from TLC, and A.J. Johnson from House Party, the Inkwell, and ish? (we can debate her), but Chilli you can’t forget that one. LOL
Yooo..another dope episode drenched in hilarity!
I’ve got one beef though…is it me or was Nia Long nonexsistent on any of the list??
Boyz N The Hood?…Love Jones???!
I digress…”Leave It All Behind” is “Bananas, B” like NBA Live 09!
I wish you and Brainchild continued success…
Rock On..
Te…good looking out with the new post. Us Gartrellians been feenin for another fix of the show man, can we at least get two Wednesdays out the month…economy is hard, and days at the office are gettin tougher to get through. Between you and the Foxxhole shows I got all five of my days filled. When you coming back to Charlotte man, I missed the last show, one of my boys had a surprise b-day party, and I ended up on some cupcakin ish when I shoulda been rockin wit LB?
[...] Episode 10 Episode 10 [...]
ahhh man, no love for gloria hendry??….lol….to all who don’t know her, pick up “black caesar” or “hell up and harlem” and take all her old school chocolate goodness in!!….she looks like she’s had some botox done in her more recent photos, but in her 70’s heyday, she was ooooooofficial!!
[...] Gartrell Radio ep.10 [via GGR] PREVIOUS: Jazzanova – Look What Your Doin’ to Me f. [...]
i kept quiet for the first 2 lists, but no mention of nia long…smh
u still my nigga, but nia long…smh
Oh and u know what’s next for future episodes right? We need a Butta Pecan edition (the Latinas) and a French Vanilla edition (the White gals)!
Tay for someone who is “not a titty man, per se,” u said the word “titties” more than John McCain said “my friends” in debate #2. And I must say I lost it at the “nutty squirrel cheeks” comment.
Lastly, I’d like to add the Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Vivian from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to the Black Coffee honorable mention list. I would put a fresh prince in the back of her bel air any day of the week. Of course, she eventually bounced and they replaced her w/ Daphne Reid, a lite brite.
Oh HELL yeah, Taral Hicks is great. I love how you remember those that were worthy enough but never got the real shine they deserved.
Taral Hicks, N’Bushe Wright, Kenya Moore, Lauryn Hill, Serena Williams… YESSSSS!!! Sweet Chocolate Overload!
I came up to Sonar in BMore from Northern VA to see you and Pooh rock the stage. Real talk… thanks for saving hip hop on so many levels.
Towa Tei “Happy” (feat. Viv & Bahamadia)…Classicness!!!!! Killin 12″ vinyl
Lauren Hill?? Foreal???
I’m The Pretty Brown Girl and I approve of this episode. All of it. I will be needing more of it, please and thank you.
For real, the Legends List was official. Thanks for that! All us Chocolate Girls appreciates ya!
I love you for playing that song by Georgia.
It’s hot and I praise you for recognizing that
OH.MY.GuuuDNESS!!! I just had a feelin’ I should check it out one more time today!
It been a month man! I’m a happy negro right about now!
Phonte congrats on “Leave it All Behind”! I’m phukkin’ lovin’ it!!
I’m really diggin’ Muhsinah, always done-dug Yahzarah & D. Brock! You’re officially THAT new renaissance man!!
phontagious weatherstance, how are the heck are ya? -gg radio is raw and sexy – Keep doing this for the soul glo army……please play keith murray’s – the rhyme – instrumental by the ummah. It would surely help clear up my acne…..werd! Will cop leave it all behind tomorrow.
YES!!!!!! Dayum good show!
Good show, but Kenya Moore — #5? She’s as close to perfect as it gets
BEEN fiendin for the return of GG Radio. Thanks for hookin it up for a brother’s late shift at work today Phonte and Brainchild. WILL COP Leave It All Behind once find time to hit up the stores.
Phonte, I love your show…listen to every episode and promote this podcast because the commentary and music selection is phenomonal…but i must say that the manner in which you introduced the chocolate women was quite disappointing. Yes, blk women span the entire spectrum of the color line…and with the other groups you used positive, cool adjectives to describe them…but for this group, “stove pipe colored, sun burned, dark finger print on charcol bitches”…really…all the other cool adjectives that could have been used…anywho, just my opinion.
Bout time
b/c it’s HUMPPPP DAYYYY… *is doing the happy dance @ her desk*
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
